Open PhD position
The Resonant Optics group at The University of Otago, in Dunedin, New Zealand, led by A.-Prof. Harald Schwefel has an open position for a fully funded PhD student.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant group of researchers active in nonlinear optics, quantum optics with ultra high quality optical resonators. Research will focus on dual-frequency comb sources and spectroscopy, based on our recent publication in Nature 2019. The candidates will benefit from wider national collaborations with researchers from the Dodd Walls Centre (DWC) of Research Excellence which consits of several groups from various Universities in New Zealand.
We encourage highly motivated candidates interested in experiments (and possibly accompanying theory) to apply. The ideal candidate will have obtained a MSc degree, or some prior undergraduate research experience. Prior background in nonlinear optics, lasers, electrical engineering, or with optical laser labs, would be beneficial.
As this research is funded through a government funding grant, we will be able to apply for Border Exemptions to bring you into COVID free New Zealand.
The campus is located in the University Town of Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand surrounded by nature, great surfing beaches, the Otago Harbour, lakes and mountains for climing and skiing.
